The acoustic capabilities (high quality miniature speakers and microphones) and the fast processors of modern smartphones allow for the transmission of data among phones, at low bitrate through the audio channel. Acoustic data transmission for one-way broadcast communication (from one device to a number of phones) is particularly attractive in scenarios that contain sound infrastructures (such as shopping malls, movie theaters, or open-air concerts). The Audiocom software supports real life experiments to test the robustness and reliability of such audio communication approaches.
